Apex United Methodist Church Weekly Work Days
WHAT TO BRING: Bring a bottle of water (or two), sunscreen, a hat, your favorite garden tools, and your KITCHEN COMPOST. Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes. (And - don’t forget that water!) Print and bring waiver and membership form and fee with you, or pick one up at the garden.
HARVESTING is done and joyfully shared on weekly workdays. We enjoy a family style harvest, which means that the bounty harvested is put out on a table and available to all those that have worked hard in the garden on the that day. Whether you’ve pulled weeds or been on “bug patrol” duty, the harvest will be there to share. And, share we do! As good stewards of the garden, members take pride in learning what each crop is, how it can be eaten or cooked, and identifying the “just right” amount of harvest to share. There is no set per-person or family amount. Instead, members are encouraged to consider how many folks are working beside them, what they or their family might need and reasonably be able to use within a window of freshness. They also keep in mind that our relationship with WWCM is a great part of our ministry, and all remaining food is brought o the ministry for sharing.
Sound tricky? It’s really not when we settle our hearts on the idea that the garden bestows gifts and favors (bounties) upon us, and it’s up to us to honor the gifts we are given.
*Note: Times may be adjusted due to intense heat or bad weather.
